How did you become interested in golf?

I played competitively from junior golf through college and worked in the golf industry for 14 years. I love being around the game and hearing stories as players improve.

What are you looking forward to most about being a GolfTEC Coach?

I plan to be completely committed to a client’s improvement in golf and to helping them enjoy the game more. I’m looking forward to establishing mutually beneficial relationships with clients and peers. Working with GolfTEC means access to an instructional database with passionate professionals and Coaches.

What are your personal golf goals?

1. To become a single-digit handicap both left and right handed.

2. To break my career best of 69.

3. Get a hole-in-one.

4. Become Coach of the Year for GolfTEC.

What is the coolest place you’ve ever played?

Torrey Pines South, one week after the 2008 US Open

Years Playing Golf: 15

How did you become interested in golf?

I started playing at a very young age. I liked being outside and found out I was actually a fairly good golfer so I continued.

What are you looking forward to most about becoming a GolfTEC Coach?

I’m excited to run my own business, so to speak.  I plan to teach lessons full-time and look forward to helping people get better!

What are your personal golf goals?

To try and get active in the section events.

What is your favorite place you’ve ever played?

Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Course in Orlando.

How did you become interested in golf?

Watching my cousin play at an early age started my interest in golf.

What are you looking forward to most about becoming a GolfTEC Coach?

I’m looking forward to helping people achieve their golf goals.

What are your personal golf goals?

I want to get back to a 2-3 handicap.

What is your favorite place you’ve ever played golf?

The Peninsula Club in Delaware.

Years Playing Golf: 6

How did you become interested in golf?

I started playing when I was in the Marine Corps. I decided to start working in the golf business when my tour was over.

What are you looking forward to most about becoming a GolfTEC Coach?

I’m looking forward to helping people get better and to improve my store’s progress.  I also want to better myself as a golf instructor.

What are your personal golf goals?

To qualify for a Nationwide or PGA Event in my area.

What’s the coolest place you’ve ever played?

The Coeur d’Alene Resort Course in Coeur d’Alene, ID. It’s the famous floating green!

Questions to a New GolfTEC University Coach

We just graduated a new crop of GTU Coaches! This week we will profile the talented golfers who will be working in Improvement Centers all over the United States.

Today, let’s start with CJ Orton.

Center where you will be teaching: North Scottsdale

Years Playing Golf: 12

How did you become interested in golf? My Grandma took me out on the course at a young age and involvement in youth and competitive tournaments kept me playing.

What are you looking forward to most about becoming a GolfTEC Coach? I’m looking forward to helping students enjoy their game more. Golf is a game and it should be fun! I’m also excited to have personal involvement in their improvement.

What are your golf goals? To qualify for a tour event and become a Certified and Master PGA professional in Instruction. I would also like to work toward a Titleist Performance Institute GP Level 3 certification.

Where is your favorite place you’ve ever played? The Club at Black Rock in Coeur D’Alene, ID.
