A closer look at a lineup designed for the performance you desire.

Doug Rikkers, GolfTEC Director of Club Fitting & Merchandise Services, PGA Member

On January 24th Adams Golf will be launching their new SUPER S product family. Adams claims that the SUPER S line is designed to be easy to hit and will perform well for golfers of all levels, so we thought we’d put them to the test. We grabbed a few players from the office and had them hit their current clubs against the SUPER S irons and driver. Using Swing Labs, our preferred fitting software, to generate unbiased results, we found that the driver and irons were both longer than any of the others tested by our staff and were consistently selected by Swing Labs as the Best Performing clubs.

The SUPER S woods feature a matte white crown and contrasting PVD face that makes the club easier to align and look larger. The SUPER S hybrids are exceptionally long and provide excellent feel and performance. Finally, the fairway woods allow you to easily get the ball in the air for longer carry distance and the driver provides consistently longer and straighter drives, giving you the confidence you need on every tee shot.

Don, a 20 handicapper, had this to say…“The driver has a solid feel and gave me more distance and consistency off the tee. It was very forgiving on shots where I know I was creating sidespin. I can definitely see this driver helping me stay in more fairways, while giving me added length off the tee. While it didn’t feel or sound as “lively” off the tee, there’s no disputing the results. This driver will definitely help my game. As for the irons, I noticed much better distance control with these irons. I’m still missing the shots from right to left, but was pleased that my sidespin was lower than with my current clubs. The SUPER S irons give me the forgiveness I need, without sacrificing distance.”

Flynn, a 5 handicap, thought the driver felt much better than his current driver; not a big surprise when you consider that he averaged 7MPH faster ball speed and 18 yards more in carry distance with the SUPER S driver.

With all the buzz around here, I thought I should test them out as well. So, I grabbed a similar type 6-iron from a competitor and compared it to the SUPER S 6-iron. I can be a little on the skeptical side, but I can honestly say that after picking up 5+ MPH in ball speed and 11 more yards in carry there’s no doubt in my mind that the SUPER S irons are in fact, easy to hit and go farther than anything I’ve played.

If you’re skeptical or just want to see for yourself your chance is coming. The week of January 28th GolfTEC will be hosting a National Fitting week featuring the entire Adams SUPER S line. Not only will this give you a chance to see, try, and buy the clubs, but you can also take the Easy Million challenge sponsored by Adams Golf. The challenge is simple…compare your current clubs to SUPER S and then go online and enter your total yardage gained. Not only will you receive a hat from Adams with your personal yardage increase embroidered on the hat, but you’ll also be entered into a GolfTEC exclusive contest to win a complete set of SUPER S woods and irons.

Start training now to tee up a great 2013.

January 23, 2013

Pitchers and catchers report will report to camp soon. People all over the nation mark this day on their calendar as the start of the baseball season. NFL teams report for the first day of organized team activities 3 months after the Super Bowl. Every year, professional athletes, teams, and fans get amped-up for the new season. The athletes know that to be the best they have to be better than their last game. And they spend the pre-season preparing to be the best.

Golf balls on green

Golfers are no different. The PGA Tour season officially ended in November, and after a brief respite, most players went to work preparing for the beginning of the new season. Most amateur golfers agree that while the PGA Tour officially begins its 2013 season on January 4th, the season will truly begin when the first ball is in the air at The Masters on April 11th. This means that amateur golfers have plenty of time to prepare for the upcoming season. GolfTEC is here to offer a few tips to help you “Break Through This Year”!

The pre-season is a great time to get with your Certified Personal Coach and decipher the weakest parts of your game. While the weather outside may be frightful, it’s always 70-degrees and sunny at your GolfTEC Center. This makes for the perfect environment to break old habits and instill good habits without worrying about ball flight, results, or score

  • Did you have trouble hitting fairways or greens last season? Maybe there are still a few full swing flaws that need work to help increase the consistency and accuracy of your swing. Spending some time in a mirror or taking advantage of Video-based Practice are great ways to solidify the moves you’ve been working on so you can nail it down the center of the fairway and hit more greens.
  • Do you have the right clubs in your bag for top performance? It could be time for a Personal Club Fitting to be sure the clubs you’re playing are the right ones to match your swing.
  • Are you having trouble making that 5-footer to close out a match or win the club championship? Spend some time working with your Coach on The Eyeline 4 Putting Elements to give you the confidence you need to close the door on the competition.
  • Are you fatigued or in pain near the end of a round? Your Certified Personal Coach can help you find a local resource to develop a stretching and/or fitness routine to prepare your body for those long, grueling summer rounds.

Inbay Practice

Too often amateur golfers try to fix their golf game in the heart of the season. The pre-season is the time to improve the weak areas of your game and fine-tune those areas that are already exceptional. Picture yourself on the tee on an early spring morning. It’s your first round of the year. Your playing partners have already sliced, shanked, and yanked their drives into the muck. While they’re complaining about their rusty swings, you can calmly launch a perfect drive down the center of the fairway

…what a feeling! Let’s make this your best season ever. GolfTEC is ready to help you “Break Through This Year”!

Anchors Away

January 9, 2013

GolfTEC offers some tips to help golfers adjust their stroke to comply with the proposed USGA and R&A rule change.
GolfTEC staff, video by Andy Hilts, GolfTEC Vice President of Instruction and Education

Since the USGA and R&A proposed a rule change in late November that would ban anchored putting, the opinions regarding the rule change have been widespread. Greg Norman, agreeing with the proposed change, said, “I just don’t believe in anchoring. It’s not a stroke.” On the other hand, as you might expect, Keegan Bradley, the first player to win a major using the belly putter, said, “This is a tough topic for me because I have to be careful of what I say. I personally…obviously I don’t agree with the ban.”

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, Rule 14-1b will be finalized this spring, but will not go into effect until January 1, 2016.

It is important to understand that with the proposed rule change, a player can still use a broom-handle or belly putter—as long as it is not pressed against their body to create the effect of a hinge.

With that, Andy Hilts, GolfTEC VP of Instruction and Education set out to provide golfers with some tips to help adjust their strokes to comply with the proposed change.
